Glass Island Designs is a drinkware & gifts company based in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. Family owned and operated; Glass Island Designs creates quality hand-etched glassware and laser engraved gift items that are both functional and treasured.

Founded by Val and Steve, experienced artists/designers who are committed to creating quality items suitable for any occasion. Whether it’s whiskey glass for a birthday, a wine glass for an anniversary or wedding, or a beer mug or insulated travel mug for a coach's gift, their goal is to help you find a gift that speaks to the recipient. They can also create custom designs made just for you.

Many of Glass Island Designs customers are looking for something they can't find in a big-box store, a gift that feels like them, something tied to a favourite hobby or sport, a special memory, their profession, a family tradition, or a love of the outdoors. 

For those that are more artistically inclined; Val and Steve have had fun creating a selection of DIY kits. Paintable in any colours you like, these kits are a great activity for friends or family allowing you to show off your own creativity.

Meet the Makers

Valerie

Valerie is a creative and thoughtful individual with a passion for craftsmanship, design, and bringing ideas to life. She finds inspiration in nature, art, and the beauty of everyday details, using these influences to create meaningful pieces with care and purpose.

Her attention to detail, curiosity, and commitment to learning allow her to continually explore new ideas and techniques while growing her creative skills.

Valerie enjoys discovering different forms of art and experimenting with new approaches, always appreciating the journey of learning and creating. She believes that handmade pieces carry a special connection because they reflect time, care, and personal expression.

Outside of her creative work, Valerie enjoys spending time with family, traveling, exploring new places, and experiencing different cultures. Her curiosity, creativity, and appreciation for life’s simple moments continue to inspire the work she creates and the connections she shares with others.

Steve

Steve brings creativity, technical expertise, and a passion for learning to Glass Island Designs. With a unique blend of design skills, computer knowledge, and problem-solving abilities, he helps bring ideas to life and supports the continued growth and development of creative projects.

With a natural curiosity and a drive to explore new possibilities, Steve enjoys developing creative solutions and finding innovative ways to combine technology and design. His attention to detail, patience, and willingness to share his knowledge make him an important part of the team.

Outside of his creative and technical interests, Steve enjoys practicing and teaching Jiu Jitsu, where he shares his skills, discipline, and experience with others. His dedication to continuous improvement and helping those around him reflects the same commitment and passion he brings to every aspect of his life.

Richard

Richard brings dedication, reliability, and a strong sense of teamwork to Glass Island Designs.

As Valerie’s husband and proud father to Steve, he provides steady support and plays an important role in helping bring each project to life.

Always willing to lend a hand wherever needed, Richard contributes in many areas, from carefully sandblasting handcrafted pieces to preparing and packing orders for customers.

With a practical nature, strong work ethic, and attention to detail, Richard helps ensure every handcrafted piece receives the care it deserves.

Outside of his work, he enjoys traveling, discovering new places, and exploring the underwater world through his passion for scuba diving. His adventurous spirit, reliability, and willingness to support those around him make him an essential part of both the family and the team.
